INVERT SUGAR SYRUP, OR WHY I SHOULDN'T HAVE GONE TO SAINSBURY'S AT MIDNIGHT...

DAMN those Sainsbury's Taste the Difference white chocolate raspberry cookies that look gorgeous in the packet photo but taste like chemicals and raspberry jam. And dammit that I've just eaten five of them as a bedtime snack. I kept eating the cookies to decide whether I should just throw them away because they were SO icky, or keep them for the morning to dunk in my tea. Just to have something to dunk in my tea.At least they're GM free! Phew, I wouldn't want to ingest any GM Acid Sodium Pyrophosphate now, would I? But non GM should be fine.

And then I ate a Cadbury's Creme Egg. (If you don't know what this is because you are not English, do try one and you will instantly understand the entire concept of English cuisine. Actually I think they're banned outside the U.K for not being proper chocolate.)

Now I feel sick and the packet is right next to me.

Dearest, Cadbury Creme Eggs make me SICK but they are so yummy. Well, its actually the mini ones that get me. The big ones are just TOO gloopy.

God I miss Sainsburys!

Love from Chanelbaby.

My dear that's what's called a binge. A mini-binge, albeit, nonetheless a binge. I don't want the application of this term to suggest any judgmentalism on my part, no not at all. I'm a periodic binger myself. I've recently discovered these Lindt chocolates that are filled with a crème brûlée (for those of you who laugh, recall that I live in a backwater of chocolate culture). As I took one bite I caught the creamy flavor, and just as it was melting there was a crunch. ‘Crunch?’ I said to myself? Indeed, we all know that the burnt, crunchy brûlée bits are as necessary as the custardy part, but they thought of that too? Yes. So I thought one more piece was needed to appreciate this trick of engineering. It was after the second piece (or was it the third) that I began to think of nominating Lindt for a Nobel Prize (peace I think, but perhaps medicine since chocolate has all those antioxidants and what not, doesn't it? This must be good for me; well, at least decent; at least it shouldn't kill me instantly). One bar (six pieces) latter I melted and turned to goo and have just now lost the ability to type

Dear lola, it sounds odd that you bother to prepare yourself and actually eat things like white miso soups and chickpea bread, and end up eating that erm... shit.
but bingeing, that I can understand too. I must admit I share bb's view about the merits of Lindt, though the crème brulée bar is definitely not for purists. I prefer to go for the Lindt 70% cocoa dark chocolate bar (though the serious purists would go for the 85% one...). Do yourself a favour, Lola, when you cannot help stuffing yourself with something that's bad for you, at least choose serious chocolate! It might kill you as well, but at least it was worth it. xxx

Only in America. Take a look at this link
from Yahoo news

(In case the link isn't working the first lines read: It's every chocolate lover's wish that their favorite indulgence could somehow be healthy for them. Now, chocolate makers claim they have granted that wish. Mars Inc., maker of Milky Way, Snickers and M&M's candies, next month plans to launch nationwide a new line of products made with a dark chocolate the company claims has health benefits. Called CocoaVia, the products are made with a kind of dark chocolate high in flavanols, an antioxidant found in cocoa beans that is thought to have a blood-thinning effect similar to aspirin and may even lower blood pressure. The snacks also are enriched with vitamins and injected with cholesterol-lowering plant sterols from soy.)

Mia may be right, but but leave it to the Americans to take something fun and squeeze all the fun out of it. This contrasts with the Swiss who take something fun and squeeze even more fun into it (cf the crème brûlée chocoloate above...)

Haha, I do the same thing with inedible cookies. Why we can't maturely put the package in the rubbish bin after the first bite is a cruel mystery.

Btw, we have Cadbury Creme Eggs in Canada.
