SOLACE...

I loved all your tips in the comments on How to Crawl Out of a Hole. I think I'll make a linky doodad to it on the sidebar so that anyone can dip into it in times of need. It just goes to show how we're all in the same boat. Oh, life.

I'm taking advantage of a window in the insomnia schedule to post this. For the past couple of years I've had long bouts of it and nothing - not sleeping pills, not Valerian (which incidentally works on cats in exactly the same way as catnip - cut to Lola with her entire head in the glass I just drank my Valerian tincture out of) nor any remedy you can think of can touch it. I just don't sleep. It's amazing to me how little sleep the body can survive on. After three nights of less than two hours a night I gave into it last night and decided to scrub my kitchen floor at roughly 2.30am. And then, I slept. I feel like a bright new shiny button today, even though the sky is steely grey and the last of the leaves have fallen off the cherry tree in the garden.

Making me happy today:

I'm going off to view this auction in person - just looking mind. (I have a lot in the auction that I'm selling as a favour to a friend.) But I'm looking forward to cooing sweet nothings to this baby...

I'm expecting to receive this book any day now....

ah, a lot of people seem to be suffering from insomnia nowadays-
I mean, what I would suggest is drinking warm milk before you go to bed, and stop going on the computer or doing anything that will get your heartbeat up (like scrubbing floors), at least 2 hours before you plan on going to bed. haha works for me!

Oh, but the floor scrubbing worked for me! Last night anyway. Maybe that's the answer - tire self out physically during the day...

I've had insomnia most of my life. And like you, I've tried it all. It's weird, sometimes getting up and doing stuff works and other times putting on a movie works, I haven't been able to master a remedy for myself.

When I was really little my Dad used to tell me to think of something (anything) besides trying to fall asleep. I would always imagine horses galloping on hilltops and through forests. Now I usually picture myself really little listening to my dad's advice.

Thanks for being so cool. I love your posts they make me feel less lonely :) .

Oh how weird, I'm on my 5th day of only 2 hours sleep a night (that's pretty bad even for me). Took myself off to the doctor's today for some stronger drugs - they do the trick when Nytol and Valerian stop working - but not good to take very regularly.

Insomnia can be devastating, but when I have it, I take it as a nagging sign that something needs to change in my life...normally for the positive.

You've also made me feel a little less lonely about it :)
