THE CAMERA NEVER LIES...

Whenever I tell people about the car that turned into a boat I went in when I was a child, they roll their eyes disbelievingly and pat me on the head as if I'm claiming to have ridden a unicorn or met the tooth fairy.

Finally I have evidence. Luckily my phobia of posting photos of myself on the Internet does not extend to dorky childhood poses. So with the disclaimer that I do not currently sport this hairstyle I give you:
The Amphibious Car, Dorset, circa 1982.

Yes, that's still the coolest thing that has ever happened to me.

It's like the real life, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. You've seen the film right? So cool!

You're the only one looking at the camera... So is the rest of it true as well? Unicorns, the tooth fairy, Elvis? BB

1. I actually really like your hairdo. It's rather Jackie O. And you're so wearing that hair slide.
2. Those are the coolest childhood photos ever. And I thought my Dad was cool with his Triumph Herald.

That is very cool. Kind of James Bond meets 50s retro! Love the car in or out of the sea.

I really must pilfer the original photo. My dad found them when looking for something else and sent the scans. I should make clear that the man in the car/boat isn't him - he still has a full head of hair 25 years later! It was this man who lived there and we were on holiday. No idea who the other people in the car were either - they must have been people we met there too.

I love it!

There's a car like this parked on a boat on the Seine. My husband said it was an amphibious car and I didn't believe him. Looks like someone is going to have to apologise......

Sam - Oh my god I've seen the one on that houseboat on the Seine too! And it's exactly the same as this one - who knows maybe they're one and the same car...

maitresse: As I remember it, it's on the right bank, somewhere between Pont Alexandre III and Pont de l'Alma I think and it's parked high up on a big barge/houseboat that's moored there. I passed it on the way back from the Grand Palais so somewhere around there...Also after looking at loads of photos from then I'm considering having my hair cut!
