ITEMS OF INTEREST...

An online replacement for Domino magazine? By and featuring its ex staffers? Prayers. Answered.

A blog full of the inspirations for Where the Wild Things Are? (Like peering into Spike Jonze's brain.)

I can't decide if this film might veer into schmaltzy Notting Hill territory, or if it's just the cheesy music at the end of the trailer. I'm willing to take the risk that it might be brilliant. (Edit: Hated it!)

i know exactly what you mean about an education. it looks like it might be great, but could potentially be disappointing....also it's interesting that they've created a film out of an episode that takes up all of 20 pages in the novel. i have a feeling that, if it turns out to be good, it might be a bit like an Iris Murdoch story (this is a good thing for me, incidentally)...all dusty chintz, whisky and muted, thwarted desire. I may get into the press screening so could let you know what i think before the release date if I do?

Anna - Oh good, I thought maybe I was being too hard on it. I've developed such a hatred of trailers - they seem to put me off more than make me want to watch films. But I have an inkling there's an edge to the film, which they cut right out of the trailer - I hope so - and yes, let me know what you thought if you go!

Lovely combination of items. The trailer does make me want to see the film - but I wouldn't be too surprised if it's edgeless. At least the images are promising.

(oh i am still lingering on the last link you offered: them thangs...)
"music that builds" always makes me a tad nervous in trailers...influences the viewers' emotions too much vs the actual action...
but with that said....i think it will probably be a very entertaining movie..
(and i never feel that trailers do justice to films...although i always watch them..;))

Love the blog as always. All wonderful links- but the Domino/ Lonny news is the best- thank you so much for posting about this. I agree trailers can ruin films, by either making them seem what they aren't or ruining the story. I thought the where the wild things are trailer was great the other day though.

MM - if nothing else, it'll be a bloody good looking film!

If Jane - I know, Them Thangs is so good I gave myself a headache from scrolling/image overload.

Rose - thank you...I'm so excited about Lonny, it's exactly what needed to be done. Yes the Wild Things trailer may be an exception. I hear it's made a few people weep so far...

I know what you mean about the trailer, sometimes it so hard to tell from them. It may not be film of the year type stuff but it definitely looks pretty so I think I'll enjoy it either way!

Interesting and promising this Lonny magazine, but I think deserve some credit for inhabiting this NY-London space earlier! Must write to them asking for my royalty check! BB

Yes definitely - also NyLon magazine! I guess NY/London is an unbeatable combo...
