FLYING VISIT...

8 hours of driving in two days means packing light, a swim in the sea (no better way to tell your body it's still alive than by plunging it into icy cold waves), a sunburnt nose, cat foot snuggles with no danger of losing a toe, ice cold rosé, fresh crab and seabass (not pictured - food pics usually look gross on blogs) and realising this is precisely the correct time of the summer to re-read Bonjour Tristesse.

I'm sooo jealous. Craving a bit of hot weather and a dip in the sea here in Scotland...not to mention fresh crab! However, I am moving to Holland shortly...hopefully I will get my chance then!

I had no idea such loveliness exist a mere 4 hours' drive from London! bb

Anna - Holland! What! How exciting! x

BB - oh it does, I assure you. You just have to know where to go...

please tell me where to go? where is this fabled land? Yes, I've managed to land a job as a lecturer in film at a university out there...really excited and terrified at the same time...of course, I'll try to squeeze in the odd clip from Sofia Coppola to illustrate my points in the lectures.

Anna - the fabled land is Swanage in Dorset. You could try and illustrate all your lectures with clips from SC films but you may run out of material quite fast! I hear they have good chips in Holland so it will clearly be great.

I have that Penguin edition of Bonjour Tristesse as well, a perfect read for summer although for me it was perfect one dreary spring..

Did you stay at friends or a hotel? Trying to book a small break to avoid the August bank holiday weekend in London... Was thinking the New Forest but the beach would be lovely.

July Stars - my dad lives there but I've always wondered about the Knoll House Hotel- it looks a bit dated but it has its own grounds going down to Studland Bay, which is the most beautiful beach.

Oh, ha - read this: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/travel/hotels/ukhotels/5696083/Knoll-House-Dorset-Hotel-Guru.html

Sure there are a couple of cute B&Bs in Knoll as well!
