I think it's clear where the source of my obsession with this particular washed out linen stripe lies. Never underestimate the power of childhood reading. In fact, Milly-Molly-Mandy's dress was coloured in red stripes in later versions of the books; but it's the earlier ones printed in black and white that are clearly seared into my subconscious.
I still want a shop like Miss Muggins and to live in a white cottage with a thatched roof on the edge of the village. I could wear my striped dress, satchel, boots and straw hat to go blackberry picking with Billy Blunt and Little-Friend-Susan. I'm pretty sure I could get a couple of my friends to respond to those names all summer.
{Dress: Le Vestiaire de Cle (basics) top: Le Vestiaire de Jeanne (from summer 10) espadrilles: Toast (I bought these and had to send them back because one of them kept falling off!)}

oh i think i would visit that shop as well...(and one day i shall sit down and properly write what films and music shaped my life...if even in a sartorial sense...food for thought C!_)
I think my hairdresser must have been deeply impressed by the books too , when she was little .She keeps on giving me a Milly-Molly-Mandy-ish haircut !
(I , too , want the boots ).
oh my goodness, that's it! my copy of milly molly mandy was the most dog-eared of all my books due to repeated reading. i LOVED her and everything about her life. i think it's high time i read it again (because clearly i need more striped clothing).
If Jane - yes, sometimes you don't realise where something has come from, then bam! Something jogs your memory and it's suddenly so obvious!
S&S - is this good, or not?!
Charlotte - If I bribed you would you respond to Little-Friend-Susan for an hour? Then I promise we'd swap haha!
