HERE...

Within two hours of arriving in Paris I was befriended by a cat who looked exactly like Lola, slurped down a chocolat chaud even more potent than the one at Angelina and sat next to Clemence Poesy (she's always following me) in a cafe.

Thanks to the exchange rate (1 pound = 1 euro) I am poor in Paris. Everything is too expensive. I was going to buy a top in Muji then I saw that it was 39 euros - but the U.K price was 25 pounds. It's . cheaper . in . London. WHAT?

Forget about Isabel Marant or even A.P.C. Even socks at Monoprix are a little on the pricey side. Hmm, exchange rate poverty. So it seems the task ahead of me is to treat it like a challenge. This trip will now be named:

"How Much Free Shit Can I Blag in Paris?"
Wish me luck.

Good luck! I became quite good at it in London. Now that the US dollar is back it should be a better visit this time... BB

Oh do take a Lola "Doppelgänger" as a sign! ;)
And yes, oddly enough a few months back when I was in Paris, I went to the Diptyque store for a sniff...and the bougies were actually cheaper in Montréal (I even told them that, and they too were a little perplexed)..With that said, I wish you luck and nudge you to win this challenge....and perhaps to walk away with a few lovely items!

This is how I felt spending my US dollars in Italy earlier this year. $100 for a pizza!

Hey Nancy,

Didn't realize that you live in Montreal... My brother is moving there... (Indeed, there is a Bombay Bro...) Must get some tips from you. But I imagine that Montreal is one of the places that is fun almost every way you slice it...

please tell me there are some ok sales in Paris, though! with the dollar-euro exchange rate, i'm expecting it won't be cheap anyway. but at least i might find things that aren't available in the states?

BB - oh feeling smug now are we hmmm? what do you mean better? Hmm? Only joking...I must pick your brains on how the prices are calculated. We shall discuss this at length.

Nancy - I'll try and take a pic of Lola's double - she seems to hang around the market. It is such a weird feeling that things are cheaper in London - as far as I can remember in my (shopping) lifetime it's always been the other way round.

IHF - $100 for a pizza?? how did that happen?

Rose - it's not that bad, just things like do you really want to pay £5 for a tiny cup of coffee? Or £20 for a quick snack?

erica - there are a few sneaky unmarked sales at the moment - it's heavily regulated by government as to when they're allowed to have them but they'll probably be on properly by the time you're here.

LD - oh that would be so fun! I'm going back to London on Saturday though so have one for me. Haven't done too well with the free stuff so far - one measly free chocolate because I bought some.

The Patrick Demarchelier exhibit is on at the Petit Palais at the moment and it's free entry. I went today and it's worth a visit.

Sam - Thanks for the tip - I meant to go, but I ran out of time!

Mia - yes, London is suddenly very reasonable. Weird.

tsfc - NO, just looking and admiring!
