SHOP...

I was really sad to hear that one of my favourite London shops, Shop @ Maison Bertaux will be closing next month. I don't know anything at all, but I imagine and hope they have some kind of extraordinarily fantastic and innovative new project in the works. I have this strange urge to wax lyrical about how Shop has always been there in some form or location really ever since I was aware of Soho. And when I lived there about ten years ago I would always see Pippa around looking quirky and glamorous and amazing. It's such a part of "my Soho" that I can't imagine it not being there any more. The Greek Street location under Maison Bertaux was really so perfect for it as well. Oh dear, this could easily turn into a sort of morbidly bizarre shop obituary where I sob into my now vintage Brewer Street era well worn Silas top, so I'll try to pull myself together. Chin up! They're having a sale and APC is 30% off. Not that that's any consolation, but I suppose I really have no choice but to buy those dotty pyjamas now.

I'm devastated too! the sale is NO consolation at all, but I will be going in to find a few last gems, naturellement!

My year in London consisted of discovering what a wonderful place Soho is after all. For half the year, I lived nearby but ignored it because I associated it with drunks on Friday night. This is true, but there are so many wonderful places tucked away on its streets... (nostalgic sigh)... BB

No, this is truly tragic ... the only reason I still explore Soho occasionally is because of Shop! I really hope that Pippa has a magical plan in store for us and that her finds will remain showcased elsewhere. I remember going to Shop when I was much younger and still at school just to check out what Pippa was wearing, she's such a style inspiration!

I came, I saw and I shopped...two APC dresses and a wallet later I left feeling much better. Apparently, there really are new and exciting plans for another shop! Hurry though, ladies...there was a full on queue for the changing room today and those bargains are going to disappear fast.
P.S the PJs are still there.x

Thankyou so much for your wonderful post!!! It was starting to sound a bit like an obituary...but a lovely one. No concrete plans yet, I've started a new website called http://www.madamesays.com/ and I've linked you on it, would love you to have a look and see what you think and if you like it link me too.... I'll be found at M.Goldstein's more often too and that's as far forward as I'm thinking at the moment....It's the end of an era, and it's been so wonderful, but I'm quite looking forward to coming out of the basement and into the light for the first time in 13 years!!!!! x

I will check it out for sure and will keep up with your plans. Hope I can make it down before you close, while there's still anything left. It may be best to work up exposure to the daylight in increments! Anyway it gives you an excuse to wear sunglasses during the day for a while...
