FRUMPY, LUMPY AND GRUMPY...

I am engaged in grumpery.

The a.p.c. plaid tunic does not look charming on me - it looks like a Laura Ashley maternity smock from 1984 - and not in a good, ironic way. The plaid makes me think of a dressing gown my father once had - again in the 80s - and various home furnishings I remember people having in the 80s. This, in turn has caused an identity crisis - as in, the clothes that once seemed made for me, look crap on me. So, like, who am I now?

I didn't like the clothes as modelled by the model I felt looked ill. I liked them on the model I could identify with so I bought something but I looked crap - unlike the model. It didn't look poufy and awful on her but I'd like to see how many bulldog clips she's got hiding round the back there.

So maybe I should have bought something from the "wan" section and I might have been pleasantly surprised. It may seem as if I've spent the entire week thinking about catalogues and plaid tunics but I really haven't. I had many mundane things to attend to and the Fedex man arriving with my new top was supposed to cheer me up and make me feel all spiffy again. Oh, how the opposite was true when I put on that top and looked in the mirror. Even with a belt - no.

This concludes the spring/summer 08 portion of the a.p.c obsession report. If anyone needs me I'll be shopping in the elasticated waistband old biddy section of Marks & Spencer.

that's so rubbish. I got a checked plaid-like shirt that you might like today from jigsaw in exactly the same style as one I got last year and have lived in rain and shine. it is navy and black checks but they have it in beige too. mmm, I make that sound nice, eh...

Truly naive/ shocked/ horrified / sympathetic question/confession -- when you order via mail, can you return what does not fit? This is why I tend not do these things by mail. This used to happen to me all the time as a child. I would see some toy on a cereal box and convince my parents to order it for me. When it came, initial excitement, but then bitter disappointment as the toy was flimsy, plastic-y, cheap. I must stop before my day turns too depressing. I can't relive those horrors... BB

DO NOT give up hope, cherie! Perhaps you will find something to cheer you up from the Paul & Joe sale - waaaaa wish I was there xx

oh ma cherie, that's that rotten feeling when you need a pick me up and then what you choose for a pick me up DISAPPOINTS, argh! HATE that feeling-- the dreaded DDF

(double disappoint factor)

*gives you a hip check in the old biddy section of M&S*

i'm sorry, i'm laughing. oh how many times have we all felt the same.

But none the less, it is still a bummer. Cheer up, go out side, walk around, buy a good cup of coffee, and go shopping on Saturday with determination to find the best outfit ever.

don't disregard the old biddy section of m&s entirely! I found some amazing baggy, pleaty cropped navy troos there the other day - or perhaps I am just built like a little old lady.

jenny's plaid tova tops are so much nicer than touitou's!

i am not happy with a.p.c. right now, models, styling, and actual products. hmph.

If only I could get my hands on one of Jenny's! I sent the apc top back but lost out on 18 euros shipping and £8 to send it back.

re apc I agree - if they're going to make changes they could at least be good ones...

ugh, that's a lot of money to toss around in shipping costs!

i'm looking forward to jenny's shop sale tomorrow, but i guess it'll be unreasonably late for you...

I'm going to try and stay awake, since I'm quite the nightowl but I may fall asleep with my finger on the refresh button!

me too... at first I sighed as it isn't the best time, but I have jet lag and it might just work in my favour...

if there are only 4-6 items for sale, i can only imagine the chaos... these much-anticipated shop updates can be so stressful.

i'm off to nyc tomorrow, so i won't be too sad if i don't get anything tonight!
